Opening speech by President

Congratulations on entering Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology Graduate School United Graduate School of Agricultural Science. It is a great pleasure to be able to meet you all in person today and to congratulate you.

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology Graduate School United Graduate School of Agricultural Science was the first doctoral program in Japan to be established 36 years ago in a coalition system, and with the participation of national universities in the field of agriculture one after another, it has become an extremely large graduate school management organization consisting of up to 20 universities in Japan Japan. Over the past 30 years, we have produced many Ph.D. holders, not only from Japan, but also from other countries, and we are also fostering human resources who will become the foundation of countries such as Asia, Africa, and South America, which are currently gaining momentum. It is clear from the recent situation surrounding the world that this kind of graduate school education is extremely important. In Japan, the importance of regional revitalization has been called out due to the adverse effects of overconcentration, and it is clear that global problems such as food, the environment, and infectious diseases cannot be solved by just a few countries or a few academic disciplines.

I think it is truly wonderful that you have had the opportunity to pursue your research in a doctoral program based on such an advanced approach. What is important is that, as you deepen your expertise, you clearly formulate a vision for what the world should look like in the future, or what kind of people you should connect with and what kind of research you should pursue in order to shed new light on the academic world.

When we think of a doctorate, we tend to think of someone with a high level of expertise in a limited field, but it is by no means a person with strengths limited to that narrow field. I believe that a doctorate is someone who has the ability to see the big challenges that are thrown at them every day, as well as what the future should look like, and to plan and execute concrete measures to get there. The world is in need of such people right now. To that end, I hope that you will feel many things, think deeply, and have the courage to break out of your shell in your daily activities. I hope that you will become people who fully understand that everything that is happening on Earth right now is connected to you, and who are aware that you are partly responsible for it, and who are able to take real action on what you need to do.

I sincerely hope that in your doctoral studies at this graduate school, you will be able to fully develop your abilities and open up new worlds that no one has ever reached before. This concludes my words of congratulations.

Congratulations on your enrollment in the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. I'm really happy to meet you in person today and congratulate you.

The United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology is the first doctoral program in Japan to be established 36 years ago in a united university system. Over the past 30 years, we have produced many doctoral degree holders, welcoming international students from all over the world, and developing human resources who will be the foundation of countries that are currently gaining momentum, such as Asia, Africa, and South America. It is clear from the recent situation surrounding the world that this kind of graduate school education is important extremely. In Japan, due to the harmful effects of overconcentration, regional revitalization is being called for, and global food, environmental and infectious disease problems, etc. can't be solved only in some countries and some academic fields.

I think it's really wonderful that you have the opportunity to pursue your research in the doctoral program, which is based on this advanced approach. And what is important is, what kind of people the world should look like in the future, or what kind of people to shed new light on the academic world while deepening each specialty. It is to connect and firmly establish the concept of what kind of research should be promoted.

Doctors are often thought of as having a high degree of specialization in a limited world, but they do not have strengths within a narrow range. I think that a doctor is a person who has the power to identify the future as well as the big challenges that are attacked every day, and to formulate and implement concrete measures to face it. Such human resources are in demand all over the world right now. To that end, I would like you to feel a lot in your daily activities, think deeply, and break your shell with courage. What I have to do from the awareness that everything that is happening on the planet is always connected to yourself and that you are responsible for that part. I want you to become a person who can put you into actual action.

I sincerely hope that you will develop your strength and open up a new world that no one has reached in this graduate school doctoral course.
